Its good to see people still "Pay it forward"
Well when I was new to this game in December 7th 2005 I played mostly alone to learn the game and get a feel for it. Doing all quests and missions along the way I finaly made it to the desert and had a time trying to get past Thirsty River with other pugs. (Agro control and lack of damage before the respawn) Well a guy that helped before mission or two that told me of a few skills that I should look forward to was on my friends list sends me a pm asking if I would help him help a friend at a mission I already finished so I backed up and joined them and we made some good time doing the missions and bonus and then made it to the mission I was having problems getting past so we three join a balanced pug group try it three times and fail because another warrior over agroed or another in the party wasnt listening to my buddy on how to pass this mission. Well after the fourth time in the same group they finaly listen to him and all of us do it by the numbers and we finished it. I then talk to these two alot after that we ascended together and became fast friend and I even joined their guild and have been in the same guild sense.
In return of all that I try to do my best to help any new player and answer any questions I see and if I dont have time to answer them I point them to here or wiki.

I've had many people do many nice things for me in the game but the one that sticks out is some random player in shing jea monastery gave my new level 2 assasin a set of Daggers of Xuekao for free. I didn't realize till later just how good they were. I've made it a point since then to visit low level areas and give away good stuff I can't use.

One thing that sticks in my mind was when i was doing a quest in Shing Jea and was looking for a group, some level 20 warrior invited himself so we took henchies and annihilated a ton of crimson skull in a blind rage. I went to offer him 1k for his trouble but he refused and tried to give me 5k.
I didn't accept it but it's still a heck of a nice thing to do.

Well, Everybody in my guild knows that I'm not a big fan of taking things for free (I honestly don't know if it's pride or guilt of not paying them back...) but man, are they great people. I've been in this same guild for almost 9 months now and have made some VERY good friends. For instance, about a week ago my guild leader gave me and another officer both 55k to recruit/buy skills/etc. Later, after depleting my supply of FoW keys and CCs, the officer mentioned above gave me a lot of keys and CCs for free, as we've been doing a lot of FoW runs with our alliance lately.
Anyway, yes, people can really surprise you at times. I normally hero/hench to avoid non-guild/alliance people who, most of the time, piss me off in some way, shape, or form but there always those random strangers that are constantly filling my friends list.
As for myself, I'm not the most kind-hearted person but back when I W/Mo vermin farmed, every time Shreader's Talons dropped, I'd find a newbie assassin in Shing Jea Monastery to give them too. (Not the greatest daggers, I know but I still felt I was being kind.) Then there's the occasional helping guild/alliance members through quests/mission and such but I'm not sure if that counts. >.>

My turn:
I remember that I hooked up with 2 higher level guys in Asc City and did several quests with them soon after coming out of pre-sear with my first and still main warrior toon (I was level 8 or 9 and I think they were level 15 or 16).
I had to leave the group later on after several for me "hard" quests given the time difference (I was in Australia they were in UK) and, as I was saying goodbye and thanking them for showing a noob around and helping, I was adding them both to my friends list when one of the guys (he was a warrior) offered to trade with me.
I said I had little if anything to trade when he gave me for free a barbed shadow sword of shelter and a magmas shield. Wow! I was stoked. I still have both of them to this day on my warrior. IMO they rock!
I will always remember this generous act of kindness and I always try to repay junior members of the GW society with free weapons, items, runes etc. post mission or quest.
One thing I will not do, however, is give people money...they should be made to earn money IMHO. But, surplus golds and purples etc I always try to give away if I dont need them.
I recently got a mate of mine to purchase NF and I travelled my Tyrian across to Elona and gave him his entire starting warrior weapon/shield kit (including runes) soon after he created his toon. I also try to do quests with him to help him level up (although Elona is IMO ridiculously easy to level up when compared to Tyria).
"Tis better to give than receive" some wise sage once said.

When I first started playing gw .. I had no idea what to do and a random person took me everywhere showed me everything and even went to post with me a couple of days later.
Another time was i was just standing in borlis pass waiting for some people to help me and a guy open trade with me and gave me 5 golds 1 green, money, and some dyes all for free.
Then... another person was not gonna play gw as much so he gave me 50k 10 greens and some golds.. I was shocked!

The person I want to comment on is probably the one person that SHOULD be nice to me, my hubby. He got me the game for Christmas, and let me start on my own - then he found out that I missed a whole bunch of presearing quests and went post searing waaaay to early. He had me delete that character and since he had an open slot, created a new character to show me the ropes. When we went post searing, he gave me 80 iron ingots (more than I needed to outfit all my chars), enough fur patches for armor, and about 1.5k in order to get armor on my warrior. He doesn't have a lot of time to give me, because he's beta testing a game right now, but when he's on, we get a lot done. This is my first experience with this type of game, and his help has been invaluable, even when he's not actually on. If he's in the room when I'm playing, and I need to know how to get somewhere, or how to beat a particular area, he'll stop what he's doing (unless he's in group) and come over and let me know what I need to know.
Like I said, it's someone that SHOULD be willing to give that kind of help, but it means a lot to me, especially in the areas that I have no clue how to approach, and he has experience with these types of games, and I don't.

Recently I gave a friend a Stygian Scythe that dropped for me because I do not use my dervish (mule), a couple of days later he gave me a req 10 max Dead Sword.
That is just recently, I and most of the people I know play by a simple rule, if I have something I am not going to use or need and someone on my f-list, guild, alliance does, it is theirs.

Probably the guy who I was with one day in Foundry. I was playign a BIP necro and I managed to keep the whole team constantly BIPed without dying. The guy kept telling me I was doign great and even offered to invite me to his guild.
But back when the game first came out the guy I was with for the Adventure with an Ally quest gave me some random items he found.

I don't think anyone has ever done anything particulary nice for me, but then again I tend to avoid communicating with most people. I have met a lot of jerks online though, within my first week I bought a fiery dragon sword, failing to realise it was customised. Yeah, it was my own fault, but I was new and didn't understand these things.
People like that really annoy me, so I try and help out whenever I can, I usually respond to someone when they're asking questions and every else is just saying "lol noob". And I usually give away dyes or items if people are asking for them. Of course I'd never give away something that would be worth a lot of money, but if someone needs a blue dye, I'd feel better just by giving it to them, rather than making a few measly gold.

I rarely accept free loots, but I almost always give stuff away to guildies/friends. Now that I've pretty well quit playing people just seem to want to be vultures, though.
Back in the day I asked a guildie if I could see their Chaos Axe for dye, and he gave me a free one telling me to check dyes myself. I'm not sure if I still have it, but it stuck with me for awhile. I was proud of it, even if it wasn't truly "Mine".

Cool
I had something like this but it didn;t involve money. It was when I was getting a run to Drok's. There was this player who decided to try a scam and said at Snakes Dance (the usual first payment point) "OMG I LEFT MY MONEY IN STORAGE!!! If you take me to Rankor I'll pay you double." Yeah freaking right >.> So the runner decided to stop running and sits there until the person leaves. I would of done he same. Then someone in our pary says "I'll be for the dumb***"" The runner takes the money and tells the scammer to remeber to pay him double like he promised. We get to Rankor and the scammer goes LATER BEYOTCH!!! and logs off. Now the runner not worried about the 1k he'd be losing says "Good riddance" but that wasn't the only thing. He gave the first payment bac to the person who payed for the scammer.
I thought that was pretty cool and totally anti-jerk.
